Introducing The All-New 2024 Grand Highlander

As we anticipate our first in-person look at the new and fresh additions to the 2023 Toyota lineup, like the all-new Prius and the revamped Toyota Sequoia, we also look further into the future. Toyota has announced that 2024 will see the release of the all-new GRAND HIGHLANDER. Not impacting current Highlander models, the Grand Highlander has been designed to offer a new play in the midsize-SUV game.

Presenting the Grand Highlander at the Chicago Auto Show, Vice Present of Toyota Marketing at Toyota Motor North America, Lisa Materazzo said “There is definitely a need in the market for a midsize-SUV that prioritizes interior comfort in all three rows and Grand Highlander is the ultimate option.” With the 2024 Grand Highlander, Toyota is solving an issue some drivers and families have had – the need for a true SUV with added comfort and interior space.

Taking its base philosophy from the current Toyota Highlander, the Grand Highlander is also an example of Toyota’s next steps towards carbon neutrality. Following the new 2023 Prius, the 2024 Grand Highlander Hybrid and Hybrid Max models will wear the new “Beyond Zero” badge – symbolizing Toyota’s global commitment to producing vehicles that run effectively and efficiently on both hybrid and electric powertrains (to name just a couple.)

The Grand Highlander comes in three grades, with three different powertrains. Drivers get to choose from XLE, Limited and Platinum grades, each offering their own touch of style, features and the opportunity for additional accessories. As for your options for performance and power, Toyota is happy to offer you very impressive options. All-wheel drive is will come standard on Grand Highlanders in Canada, with options to drive with the balanced 2.4L turbo gas engine, the efficiency-leading 2.5L hybrid engine AND the new Hybrid MAX, for the performance-seeking drivers, providing 362-horsepower with 400-pund feet of torque.

The Hybrid MAX powertrain cements the Grand Highlander as the most powerful midsize-SUV Toyota has ever built. The Hybrid MAX boasts incredible performance, going 0-60 mph in 6.3 seconds off the line – and provides 5,000 lbs of towing capacity. Three distinct powertrain options across three distinct trim levels… but we haven’t looked at the biggest change with the Grand Highlander… capacity and comfortability.

Grand Highlander

Toyota has adapted the Grand Highlander to accomplish something that most SUVs haven't achieved yet, making a three-row midsize SUV comfortable and spacious for EVERY passenger. This is done by designing the interior to include more room, and to include more versatile storage areas inside the cabin. Flat-out, with seats folded down, the Grand Highlander totals around 98-cubic feet of space. Behind the 3rd row is room for seven carryon suitcases, with or without folded seats.

Convenience for the modern road trip is at an all-time high with the Grand Highlander. Drivers have access to the standard 12.3-inch multimedia display, a centre console that can fit a tablet, a wireless charger capable of running both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, two USB ports and three cup holders.

Second-row seats are provided with an air conditioning control panel, left and right USB ports, cup holders and a smartphone storage slit. Third-row passengers are also provided with individual USB ports, storage space for smartphones and tablets, as well as two cup and/or bottle holders. Altogether, the Grand Highlander includes 13 cup holders a seven USB-C charging ports.

Every year, Toyota continues to improve on Toyota Safety Sense. The Grand Highlander is the latest Toyota to utilize Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, the newest advancement in Toyota safety features. New to this suite of safety tools is Proactive Driving Assist (PDA), which uses the vehicles camera and radar to provide gentle braking into curves, or gentle braking and/or steering to help assist in driving tasks such as distance control between vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists ahead of you.
